Tigercat Develops New 234 Knuckleboom Loader

Tigercat has developed a new knuckleboom loader, designated the model 234. It features an advanced load sensing hydraulic system and a closed loop hydrostatic swing drive.

The dedicated closed loop swing system improves fuel efficiency because the machine recovers energy as the swing coasts to a stop. Early field observations have confirmed significant fuel efficiency and very low operating temperatures even in the high ambient temperatures of the southeastern U.S. during summer.

The Tigercat 234 loader boasts an oversize swing drive gearbox and bearing that is common to all Tigercat swing machines. The 32-foot boom has a 32,500-pound lift capacity at 11-foot reach.

With fast boom cycles and powerful swing torque, the Tigercat 234 loader is designed to achieve high production in challenging delimbing and loading applications.

The valves are easily accessible underneath the walk-up platform beside the cab. The engine is mounted high in the frame for better access through large front and rear doors.

The operator’s cab is constructed with thick steel plate. Inside the cab is a quiet, spacious and well finished work environment with tinted window and excellent visibility.

USNR Acquires Inovec

USNR, a leading U.S.-based manufacturer of machinery and control systems for the wood processing industry, has acquired Inovec. Oregon-based Inovec is a leading supplier of optimization and control systems for primary and secondary breakdown in sawmills.

“Inovec’s people and products are very highly regarded in this industry,” said George Van Hoomissen, president and chief executive officer of USNR. “When we learned that GE (General Electric) wanted to sell this business, we immediately became very interested.”

USNR’s optimization products have focused on the softwood segment of the forest products industry while Inovec has specialized in products for hardwood sawmills.

Customers will see virtually no change as a result of the new ownership, said Chris Blomquist, vice president and manager of USNR’s optimization division.

Wood-Mizer Sets Contest to Recognize Mill Owners

Wood-Mizer once again is sponsoring a contest to recognize owners of portable Wood-Mizer sawmills who use their mills to operate successful businesses. Entries must be postmarked by Oct. 1, 2006.

The Wood-Mizer Business Best Contest will have four categories, depending on the type of portable sawmill. The contest has categories for Wood-Mizer’s industrial sawmills, professional models, manual models, and compact portable sawmills.

Entries will be judged on overall use of the Wood-Mizer sawmill, including sawing methods frequently used and overall production, annual income generated by the business, and how owning a Wood-Mizer sawmill has impacted the individual’s overall life.

Judging will be done by a panel. A winner will be selected for each category, and the person with the highest score also will be recognized as the grand champion and receive a $5,000 Wood-Mizer gift certificate. Winners of first place, second place and third place in each category will receive gift certificates of $2,000, $1,500 and $1,000, respectively.

The contest is open to all Wood-Mizer and AWMV owners. Rules and entry form are available online at www.woodmizer.com.
